What changes the HRT therapy cost?
Formulation and route
Tablets, patches, gels, sprays, vaginal products and intrauterine progestogen options have different prices. A lower medicine price is not automatically the best clinical choice.
Whether progestogen is needed
Someone with a uterus using systemic estrogen generally needs endometrial protection, adding another medication or device cost. The regimen is a medical decision.
Visits and monitoring
Budget for the initial assessment and follow-up. Menopause is often diagnosed clinically after age 45, so routine hormone panels are not necessarily part of evidence-based care. Testing is targeted to symptoms, risks or an uncertain diagnosis.
Insurance and dispensing
In the U.S., a medicine may be covered only after prior authorization or substitution. Copays can exceed a cash discount, so compare the plan price with a legitimate pharmacy cash price. Compounded “bioidentical” packages may add substantial cost and are not equivalent to regulated, approved formulations.
